Appointment AnnouncementTo the Members and Friends of Rosemount UMC,
It is with great pleasure that the Staff Parish Relations Committee formally announces that it is the intention of Bishop Sally Dyck to appoint the Reverend Brooke Heerwald as the new Associate Pastor of Rosemount United Methodist Church effective July 2, 2007. The Staff Parish Relations Committee has met with Brooke and unanimously affirmed the Bishop’s intention.
Brooke is an energetic, intelligent, confident and compassionate person. The passion she shows for the Lord is strong and that power will move you as well. She has received glowing evaluations and recommendations from her supervisors and from the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Minnesota Annual Conference.
She is a graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where she majored in psychology. Brooke will graduate this spring from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois with a Master of Divinity degree.
Brooke will be commissioned for ministry this June at the Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Her next step will be a three year probationary period during which she will be under the care of the Board of Ordained Ministry and the District Superintendent. Upon completion of this three year probationary period she will be ordained as an Elder.
In addition to pastoral responsibilities such as, preaching, Baptisms, Communion, weddings, funerals, etc. Brooke’s responsibilities here at Rosemount UMC will include the Adult Life ministries; Adult small groups, Alpha, Disciple Bible study, etc. She is eager to work with the small group ministry of our church and sees it as a wonderful opportunity to help people grow in their faith in God.
There will be several small group opportunities planned for July and August so that you may meet Brooke and welcome her to our congregation. A special coffee fellowship time will be held in her honor on Sunday July 8, 2007.
The Staff Parish Relations Committee will continue to look at our church and its staffing needs. RUMC is a diverse and intergenerational congregation. We are committed to reflecting this diversity in the voices heard from the pulpit. Along with Pastor Karen Bruins and Pastor Brooke Heerwald, Pastor Rick Ormsby will continue to be part of the preaching rotation. We are also pleased that Josh Corbett, Director of Youth Ministries, will begin preaching on a quarterly basis. We are excited for Josh to have this opportunity to stretch and grow in his ministry.
The Staff Parish Relations Committee is very grateful to the congregation for the wonderful ways that you have been in ministry during this transition year of having only one full-time clergy. We are excited to welcome Pastor Brooke, and, we also celebrate the ministry of the laity. Thank you!
In Christ, Chuck Phillips, Chair, Kris Anderson, Kathy Dierkes, Dennis Lund,
Jack Parker, Roxane Sipe, Jerry Sood and Paul Lindemann
“Give - So All May Worship” Campaign is Off to a Strong Start
The various Capital Campaign teams have been working hard – and joyfully – to prepare for the upcoming Capital Campaign. Watch for invitations and announcements, for skits and videos, for a Prayer Concert, and for Celebration Sunday on May 20th, when we will bring our commitments forward!
Rosemount UMC is raising over $2 million to expand our worship capacity. We are full to bursting in the sanctuary, which means that visitors don’t feel that they have a place at Rosemount UMC. God is calling on us to make room – So All May Worship!
What can you do? If you haven’t yet volunteered, we would love to have you! Just call Patty Billings (952-432-9676) or Terry Voigt (651-322-1088).
What else? Pray. Pray for our church and its leadership. Pray for the Capital Campaign. And pray for God’s guidance on your upcoming commitment to the campaign… So All May Worship!
Key elements of the Capital Campaign:
We will modify the Family Life Center so it can be used as sacred worship space on Sunday mornings (sound system, lighting, acoustics, seating, and other touches to make it a lovely and inviting place to worship).
Because we will be having two worship services at 10:30 (Contemporary in the FLC and Traditional in the Sanctuary), we need to expand the parking lot. That’s $1 million of our $2.2 million goal.
Our boiler needs to be replaced (brrrrr!) and we need to renovate some very old bathrooms in the Education Wing.
As is our custom, we will tithe 10% of the campaign proceeds to a mission project: Nothing But Nets, which provides sleeping nets to protect African families from malaria-bearing mosquitoes.
Help Close the Apportionments Gap!In mid-April, Rosemount UMC will be taking a special offering for Apportionments – the funds which each United Methodist church pays, per member, to support outreach and missions worldwide.
This year, $42,000 of our $96,000 Apportionments obligation must come from special offerings.
Our Apportionments obligation is a bill that is paid to the Conference to support mission work and education in third world countries and impoverished areas here at home. Apportionment-supported work is the way Rosemount UMC joins with other churches to do what no single church can do alone to spread the word of Jesus Christ.
Rosemount UMC’s Apportionments bill amounts to $115 per member. Many of us can afford to make an offering for more than the number of members in our household. Others simply cannot. Please help Rosemount UMC meet its Apportionments responsibility through your strong support in April!
THE TRADITION CONTINUES -40th ANNUAL SALAD LUNCHEON
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2006 - 11:00AM TO 1:00 PMBring your secretary, administrative assistant, spouse, and friends to celebrate spring with some delicious salads, deviled eggs, muffins, and pie. Enjoy some conversation, share in the fellowship, and try out a new recipe.
To make all of this happen, we need many hands. There is no age limit and men are welcome too. Never helped at a salad luncheon before? No experience is necessary. We can use your energy and fresh ideas! Sign up starting April 1st in the notebook on the Adult Life table in the narthex.
Proceeds from the salad luncheon support Rosemount United Methodist Women. If you have any questions, please call Mary Moffitt (952-846-0157) or Janet Ewing (651-431-7751).
SPRING IS HERE and so is an ALL CHURCH SPRING CLEAN-UP! Saturday, April 28th from 8a-noon. We will be sprucing-up in and around God's house and need your help. We have jobs for volunteers of all ages; painting inside and out, general cleaning, landscaping and tree removal. Mark your calendars now and be watching for a sign-up poster in the narthex. (Hint: This is a great project for Confirmands and their mentors to participate in together!) Donuts, coffee and juice provided by the Trustees.
RUMC's NEW HOUSE. In January 2007, RUMC purchased a house located just north of our church's parking lot at 3170 Lower 147th St. W. The long-term plan for purchasing this property is for parking lot expansion. The short-term plan is to renovate the house and lease it but it needs a lot of work in order to get it ready. The Trustees' goal is to have this house leased by May 1st but MUCH HELP IS NEEDED! Workdays have been scheduled every Thursday at 6p and Saturdays at 8a throughout the month of March. We will be cleaning, painting and repairing drywall but no specific skills are needed. Just show up at the house and we'll put you to work. Questions? Contact Ron Long at 651-460-4253.
RUMC Trustees are busily renovating our recently purchased house in order to get it ready for leasing. (See related article about work day opportunities!) This house is located just north of the church's parking lot at 3170 Lower 147th St. W. This 4 bedroom, 1 3/4 bath, 2 car garage house will be available for lease beginning May 1, 2007. If you would like more information on leasing this property, please contact Tami in the church office at 651-423-2475 or at tluckhardt@rosemountumc.org
Do you want to make a difference at our church? Do you believe all should be included in God’s worship? The Inclusion Team is for you. This dynamic team of RUMC members is making a big difference. RUMC now has a railing, a fragrance free area, and a convenient, comfortable place for wheelchairs in the sanctuary. There are hearing devices, and notices to let visitors know that we have wheelchairs and other help aids available. Our congregation is much more aware of inclusion issues. These are just some of the accomplishments of the Inclusion Team. There is so much more to be done. To join our team or to make suggestions, please call Gail at 952-322-5796.
New Member Class
A new member class will be held on Saturday, April 21, from 8:30 - noon, for those interested in joining RUMC. We will cover what it means to be a United Methodist, as well as a building tour and an overview of the many different programs that are offered here. Brunch will be served. If you will need free child care, please contact the church office by Wednesday, April 18. If you are interested, or have questions, please contact the church office (651-423-2475), or Jim or Dawn Dibley (651-423-5392 or jdibley@rosemountumc.org).
On May 6, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM there will be offered a class called "Serving from the Heart", which is designed to discover your gifts and talents for ministry. Lori Maser will be teaching this session, which is designed for new members, as well as anyone else who is searching for a place to serve. Child care will be provided. Please RSVP to the church office, 651-423-2475, or jdibley@rosemountumc.org, and let us know how many adults and children will be attending.
Attention all Handy People – The Trustees are starting up a new group, that will be called the Service Group. The plan is to meet once per month, both for fellowship, and to do fix-it type tasks around the church and parsonage. Ron Long, a new member of RUMC, will be leading the group, assisted by Jim Dibley. If you would like to be on the email list to be notified of these work days, please email Jim at jdibley@rosemountumc.org.

Worship Ministry NewsMAUNDY THURSDAY- April 5, 2007- 6:30pm – 7:30pm-Special Paschal Meal
Jesus transformed the Passover meal into the Lord’s Supper. Unleavened bread becomes “my body given for you” and the wine becomes “my blood shed for you”. The Paschal Meal reminds us of the connection of Moses, Passover, and the Exodus with Jesus and our Sacrament of Communion.
Our Maundy Thursday service, on April 5th, is a meal and will begin at 6:30pm. The meal will include food used in the time of Jesus – rice, lamb, salad, matzo, dates and figs. Families with children are especially invited to the service; Mac and Cheese and a variety of fruits will be made available as an alternative choice for children. Since food is to be prepared, we request that you make reservations through the church office (651)423-2475. Seating will begin at 6:15pm. A free will offering will be received to cover expenses.
BIG LEAP FOR DANCERS-Dancers from the Moving Spirit Dance Ministry were invited last month to participate in the Regenerating Worship – Worship Arts Conference held at Crossroads United Methodist Church. This was the first time the Moving Spirit Dance Ministry has been invited outside our church walls! Thanks to all the wonderful dancers who devote their time, energy and gift of dance in order to Praise and Worship our Lord!

RUMC's 6th Annual Chili Cook-off competition was very tasty!! First we would like to thank all of chefs that participated. Without the participation of all 40 chefs, we would not be able to have such a successful event. After six years of trying for the title, Cully Johnson's name will finally be added to the trophy as the first prize winner. Randy Wilson has once again been given the Spiciest Award, Linda Montgomery received the Most Creative Award and newcomer Bethany Seavers won the People's Choice Award.
$4201.16 was raised for RUMC Missions in our community through ticket sales and the Silent Auction. We would like to thank those that donated items, cooked, bid, and those that simply enjoyed the chili. The event itself is a great time, but the effects of the money raised goes far beyond the walls of RUMC.

Crossing Boundaries Quilt hanging on the west wall of the Fellowship Hall was made by the MN Conference UMW. It is signifigant for Black History Month and the UMW's continual theme of justice. It is based on a book, "Hidden In Plain View", written by Jacqueline L. Tobin and Raymond G. Dobard, Ph.D.. The book tells the secret story of quilts and the Underground Railroad. The quilt is made up of two each of ten traditional squares and the border is made of flying geese showing the way to freedom. It will be on display until April 18.
