From your Stewardship Committee-What's Your Next Step?
A few weeks ago, I was helping my son study for a vocabulary test. Now, one of the benefits of this particular parenting exercise is that sometimes you find out that you don't know what a word really means.
Such was the case with "complacency."
I had the "satisfaction" part of the definition down, but was missing a critical piece. The dictionary definition of the backside of that flashcard said, "satisfaction, often without realizing that something's missing."
So many of you have commented, after reading The 33 Laws of Stewardship these past few weeks, that you've been, in effect, complacent about giving to the church. Through your reading and reflection, you've discovered "that something's missing": the realization that nothing truly belongs to us - everything actually belongs to God, that God loves the cheerful giver, and that through meeting others' needs we meet our own. Stewardship has taken on a deeper, richer meaning.
So, this year, filling out that pledge card may feel a bit different. You've moved away from looking at it as an exercise of guilt and limitations. Instead, you're joining your fellow RUMCers in a journey toward tithing.
For most of us, giving 10% of our income to the church this year feels entirely out of reach. But "out of reach this year" isn't a free pass to complacency. God is challenging us to take faithful and deliberate steps in this journey toward tithing - step by step.
If you're at 4% this year, make it 5% next year. If you're at 7%, make it 8%. Need some help with the math? See the Cheat Sheet below. Find your approximate annual income. On that line, go across to your total weekly giving. Take the Next Step! Move one box (or more) to the right as your weekly pledge for next year. What's Your Next Step?
We'll be celebrating our pledges at services on Wednesday, November 29th and Sunday December 3rd. See you in church! Patty Billings, Stewardship Team Chair

QUILTS OF VALOR- a new group is forming at Rosemount UMC for those who quilt or are interested in quilting. Through “Quilts of Valor” groups every wounded American soldier receives a quilt. Many heart-warming stories are told by wounded veterans about what this gift has meant for their spirit and recovery. If you would like to be part of such a ministry, or get more information about this unique ministry, call Vivian Smithburg (651) 322-4563. Vivian is one or our newest church members. An organizational meeting will be held in January, 2007.
GETTING TO KNOW JESUS
Jesus was a humble, yet powerful and complex man. He delivered a simple message. He confused and angered the religious leaders of his time and yet he inspired his followers to risk their lives to spread the Good News and establish his Church. Groups are forming in January that will look more closely at this man that the early Church described as both fully HUMAN and fully DIVINE. “Jesus, the Early Years” is part of the “Understanding the Savior Series”. It focuses on the first 8 chapters of the Gospel of Mark and will last for 13 weeks (January – March). There are two opportunities to participate: Sundays, 9:00-10:00 a.m., and Wednesdays, 7:00-8:00 p.m. No homework or preparation time is needed—only regular attendance at the one hour sessions. The leader is Rev. Rick Ormsby; he may be reached at church (651) 423-2475 ext.209 or at his home (507) 333-2770.
RUMC Charge ConferenceAs required in the Book of Discipline, RUMC will be holding a Charge Conference with District Superintendent, Cindy Gregorson on Monday, Dec. 4th at 6:45p-7:00p in the Conference Room. The purpose of this meeting is to set the pastor's salary for 2007.

Volunteers needed to pick up food from Rosemount KFC and/or Apple Valley Old
Chicago restaurants to be delivered to Rosemount Resource Center and RUMC. This involves a 1-2 hour commitment once per month and is an easy way to give back to the community. Currently, we need a volunteer for the 4th Monday or Tuesday of the month to pick up at KFC between 2-4 pm. We were fortunate to be offered the Old Chicago slot and are still working out pick up time details with them. Please contact Shari Christian if you are able to help with this great project. (651)905-0409. Also, please support these businesses that provide such a great benefit to our community!
Want to have a lot of fun and serve others in need? Please join Leslie Hailer and Brenda Lawrence as they continue their Urban Plunge ministry at North UMC Community Clothing Closet. We sort clothing and interact with the community as they receive free clothing. Next date is Saturday Dec. 2 9:00am - noon. We'll be meeting at the church at 8:00am to carpool. Please sign up in the narthex, or call Leslie at 651-322-1302 or Brenda at 651-454-6117 with any questions.
Do you have any new or gently used clothing you could donate to the Clothing Closet? They are accepting clothing and shoes in all sizes. This month we'd be especially grateful for new or gently used children's pajamas.
