Jamaica Mission Team to be commissioned- At worship services on Wed Jan 9th and Sunday Jan 13th we will commission our 2008 Jamaica Mission Team. The team will continue work begun last winter at Ebenezer Basic School (for children ages 3-5) in Bamboo, Jamaica. The school has over 90 kids and has a pressing need for the 4 new classrooms being built by Minnesota United Methodists.
The group will be gone from our lovely Minnesota from January 15-29 during the most wonderful time of the year - to face the challenges of the warm Jamaica winters, (but, as they say, someone's got to do it!)
This year's team includes Rosemount UMC members Bob and Pat Peterson, Bill Spychalla, Hans Student, and Rick Ormsby. Brian Hanson's sister, Pam Ruiz, is also on the team. Our missionary to the Czech Republic, Greg Strock, is a welcome addition. Greg is home on a 4 month furlough and is very excited by this opportunity. The team is rounded out with Rick's wife, Rae, from Hope UMC in Faribault, and the Ormsby's good friends, Darrell and Bunny Huddleston from New Hampshire. Darrell and Bunny were United Methodist missionaries in the 1970s to the Republic of the Congo and Zimbabwe in Africa. The final team member is Steven Moe from 4th Avenue UMC in Faribault. Besides Rick, Steve is the only team member who has previous experience in Jamaica.
The Jamaica team will have an orientation meeting on Saturday, December 15, 10 am until noon, in the church Conference room. Anyone who is interested in this ongoing ministry is cordially invited to sit in.
Can you help send Greg to Jamaica? On December 5th and 9th Greg Strock will share with us his ministry in the Czech Republic; he is home for a four month furlough before returning to continue his missionary work. Following the Sunday services the Mission team will host a pot-luck dinner in Fellowship Hall- with Greg as the guest of honor.
While here in Minnesota, Greg will be part of the Jamaica Mission Team. But he needs our help! Missionaries are paid enough to live on, but not much is left over. $1400 is needed to send Greg to Jamaica; $200 has already been donated. If you will help, contact Pastor Rick Ormsby, leader for the Jamaica Team, or plan to attend the pot-luck on December 9th, an offering basket will be available for donations.

Remember you are a Rock Star and Jesus believes in all of you!!!
It is not Santa who comes to Spanish Countries bearing
gifts, but the
Three Wise Men. Spanish tradition has it that the
Three Kings, los Reyes
Magos, are the ones who on the morning of January 6th,
el Día de Reyes,
bear presents for all the children, repeating the
ritual they performed
after baby Jesus was born. You can honor that event
by sponsoring a
child in need. La Puerta Abierta United Methodist
Church in St. Paul has
identified some children in its midst that are
strapped by unemployment,
underemployment, and other causes of need. We only
receive children's
names with sizes, but if possible, please also include
an age
appropriated gift for the child. The name of the
child's parent(s) are
also on the back of each hand if you would like to
include a gift for
them or a general gift for their home( i.e. new
bedding, kitchen items,
etc) The community is close knit so if sizes are
wrong they will swap
amongst themselves. We also encourage gift
certificates for local
stores along the bus line- Target, Rainbow, Cub.
Gifts can be dropped
off at the office anytime until December 31st since La
Puerta celebrates
the Day of the Kings. For questions, contact Meredith
Johnson

Simpson Shelter Meal - Join us as we bring and serve a meal at the Simpson Shelter in Minneapolis. The shelter, located in Simpson United Methodist Church, serves the 70 homeless people who stay there each night. This is a great family activity. We try to provide a meal once a month. Cooks are needed to prepare the meals in the Rosemount UMC kitchen. Watch for the dates and sign up to volunteer in Fellowship Hall. Contact Rich Wirt -rwirt@rosemountumc.org
The Rosemount Family Resource Center is located on 145th Street and welcomes volunteers most days and times. There is a wide range of opportunities, from organizing food donations to helping kids with homework or getting a game of basketball going. Contact Rich Wirt -rwirt@rosemountumc.org or you may call the Center directly: (651) 322-5113.

Thank You!
Dear Rosemount UMC,
Emma just turned one on Sunday, November 25th and in a little over a month is truly flourishing. The nightmares get further apart and she is healthy and happy all the time. She has a smile on her face for everyone that shows off two new teeth. She is walking now and loves to “sing” and dance. Maybe a future choir member??? Tom and Linda have adopted her as their grandchild but I feel like all the people at RUMC have adopted her as well. “We are all sisters and brothers under Christ” has taken on a whole new level of meaning. What you have all done for Emma, you have done for Jesus glory. Emma and Melody and I would like to thank each and every one of you. When Emma came to us, we were very blessed. We may not have much, but we are truly rich to be able to call RUMC our home.
On Friday, October 19th, with only a few hours notice, I received my niece's baby Emma on my doorstep with only the clothes on her back. She was undernourished, had open sores, and was very quiet. My daughter, Melody, and I took her in and cleaned her up and on Sunday morning brought her to church. I was completely overwhelmed and needed help. Within minutes of bringing our story to Pastor Brooke, we were receiving help. That afternoon we had Tom and Linda Montgomery dropping off everything from a high chair to a new dress for church and baby food and more. Bonnie Student was on the job helping to find day care. There were countless gifts from the Klekner’s and the Zone 56 families and many more from people we didn’t even know. Within the first week, baby Emma had everything she needed. Emma had everything from a crib to clothes, toys and a dresser, blankets and love. It was amazing to me after seeing how horrible someone could be to a defenseless baby to how wonderful people could be to rally around that same child. It was truly an emotional roller coaster (not helped with the lack of sleep) :0).
Blessings,
Robin Hubertus
