Our worship series beginning January 6/10th (Wednesday/Sunday) and running through Easter will center on the Gospel of Luke. The story from Luke’s perspective, actually began with the Advent scriptures. In January, February and March we will learn more about the life of Jesus, his teaching, his miracles, his parables and his deep love for humanity. During the season of Lent we will follow Jesus and his journey to the cross.
To help you get the most out of this worship series I encourage you to bring your own Bible with you to worship. A good study Bible will help you understand the historical context (where did the story take place, what were the customs, what did particular words/phrases mean) and make application to our lives today.
Here are a few study Bibles I would recommend:
Life Application Study Bible
Oxford Annotated Bible
Harper-Collins Study BibleMost of these Bibles come in several different translations: NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) NIV (New International Version), NLT (New Living Translation), KJV (King James Version) etc. You may have a favorite translation you like to use.
If you want to read in more contemporary language, less for deep Biblical study and more for devotional reading you may want to try Eugene Peterson’s translation called, “The Message Remix”.

SPECIAL GUEST PREACHER
Sunday, January 28, 2007
8:00, 9:00 & 10:30 servicesWe welcome Bishop Sally Dyck to Rosemount UMC. Bishop Dyck is the resident bishop of the Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Bishop Dyck is an inspiring preacher and teacher.
Meet the Bishop
The Rev. Sally Dyck came to lead in the Minnesota Area on Sept. 1, 2004. In July 2004, she was elected to the episcopacy (office of bishop) in the North Central Jurisdiction with two other new bishops.Up to that point Bishop Dyck served as an elder in the East Ohio Conference. She was superintendent of East Ohio's Wooster District from 1997 to 2003. She served on the board of directors for the General Board of Global Ministries, and was elected to the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches in 2006.
She received theological training from Boston University School of Theology (M.Div., 1978), University of Geneva/World Council of Churches (graduate certificate, 1978), and United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio (D.Min., Black Church Studies, 1989). She was ordained an elder in 1981 in East Ohio.
"Wherever I am in ministry, I envision a community of people studying scripture, exercising the disciplines of our faith, and discovering the joy of sharing faith with others through word and deed," Bishop Dyck told members of the North Central Jurisdictional Conference in 2004. "As a result, my vision is that the UMC and its membership will become a spiritually vital and energized body of believers who make a difference in every community as well as the world."
She has been married to the Rev. Kenneth Ehrman, a United Methodist elder, since 1976.
Making room for more on Sunday Morning....
We are excited to tell you about a new worship service on which a team of staff and lay people are working! As a church that is living out the Great Commission, to reach more with the Good News of Christ Jesus, we need to make more room in Sunday morning worship. A team containing representatives from many ministry areas in the church, is working through the logistics of beginning a traditional style worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays in the Family Life Center, targeted for fall of 2007. There are many considerations to work through, so we could even use a few more on our team. This will be a great opportunity for us to expand our church family and connect more in our community to the Word of God. Get ready to join the effort, through volunteering, ushering, using your musical talents and even attending this worship time. If you have questions, contact Lori Maser at lmaser@rosemountumc.org or see us at the Service Fair January 21st. We'll keep you posted!
Charge Conference
A Charge Conference will be held Thursday January 4th at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the Charge Conference is to discuss purchase of property adjacent to the church parking lot for the purposes of future ministry/parking needs.
This notice is given in accordance with the Book of Discipline, paragraph 248.
New Member Class![]()
A new member class will be held on Saturday, January 20, from 8:30 - noon, for those interested in joining RUMC. We will cover what it means to be a United Methodist, as well as a building tour and a brief overview of the many different programs that are offered here.
Brunch will be served. If you will need child care. please contact the church office by Wednesday, January 17th. There is no cost to you. If you are interested, or have questions, please contact the church office (651-423-2475), or Jim or Dawn Dibley (651-423-5392 or jdibley@rosemountumc.org).We are also looking for volunteers to become mentors to the new members. It is a short-term commitment, which will involve coming to the class, and helping to introduce them to folks with similar interests. If you are interested, please contact Jim or Dawn Dibley.
From the Outreach TeamSome of you who watch CNN, HGTV or the Weather Channel may have noticed ads, placed by the United Methodist Church, that were on in December. We will be sharing some of these TV ads during worship, beginning in January, during the Invitation Minute. We will also be sharing some stories of how people have been invited to RUMC, as well as some ideas on how we can become even more welcoming to guests. Thanks. Jim Dibley, Outreach Chair
From your Stewardship Committee
RUMC Giving Statements
You should have received a summary of your 2006 giving in the mail. This statement is mailed in December to give you an up-to-date summary of your giving for the year. Some of us don't closely track the weekly offerings and may discover from the December statement that we're a week or two behind in our 2006 pledge. This month is a great chance to "catch up," and often makes a difference in whether RUMC will be able to make all of our Apportionment payments for 2006.
The Finance Committee extends a big "THANK YOU" to each and every one of you for your faithful support of Rosemount United Methodist Church's ministries!! You ALL make a difference!
Taking the Next Step
Thank you to all of you who have submitted your pledge cards for 2007. Many of you seem to be Taking the Next Step Toward Tithing!
If you have not yet filled yours out, the Finance Committee would deeply appreciate your doing so, as we are trying to put the budget together for next year. We need to know what revenues the church can expect before we can decide what we'll be able to spend in 2007 to share the Word of God. Pledge cards can be found by the name tags in the Narthex or in the pew racks. Or you can give Sandra Pearman a call (651-423-2475) or email her at spearman@rosemountumc.org. Thank you!!
Help us save money!
Postage and paper costs continue to rise!! We'd like to communicate with you by email, but we need your email address! Please fill out the blue card in the pew rack and drop it in the offering plate or send an email to Sheryl at soconnell@rosemountumc.org . Thanks!

QUILTS OF VALOR- a new group is forming at Rosemount UMC for those who quilt or are interested in quilting. Through “Quilts of Valor” ,groups every wounded American soldier receives a quilt. Many heart-warming stories are told by wounded veterans about what this gift has meant for their spirit and recovery. If you would like to be part of such a ministry, or get more information about this unique ministry, call Vivian Smithburg (651) 322-4563. Vivian is one or our newest church members. An organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 3:00 pm in the conference room.
GETTING TO KNOW JESUS
Jesus was a humble, yet powerful and complex man. He delivered a simple message. He confused and angered the religious leaders of his time and yet he inspired his followers to risk their lives to spread the Good News and establish his Church. Groups are forming in January that will look more closely at this man that the early Church described as both fully HUMAN and fully DIVINE. “Jesus, the Early Years” is part of the “Understanding the Savior Series”. It focuses on the first 8 chapters of the Gospel of Mark and will last for 13 weeks (January – March). There are three opportunities to participate: Sundays, 9:00-10:00 a.m., Sundays, 10:30-11:30 and Wednesdays, 7:00-8:00 p.m. No homework or preparation time is needed—only regular attendance at the one hour sessions. There are numerous children and youth activites available during these class times. The leader is Rev. Rick Ormsby; he may be reached at church (651) 423-2475 ext.209 or at his home (507) 333-2770.

UMW News2006 Holiday Bazaar Report –Janet Ewing
God is so good! Several years ago Lisa Pittman and I marked several boxes of craft items “ do not use until 2006” and stored them away. God must have known this was the year they were needed. Thank you, God. It was a surprise to have a busload of tourists stop and shop after seeing the outdoor signs. The Simpson UMW ladies split their items between Woodbury and us, and the 10% we received was a little over ninety-three dollars. Thank you, God. And I thank you and praise God for all who participated!!!! It would take a whole page to list your names. You mad
e it a success!
