Happy New Year, Rosemount UMC!

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” ~Oprah Winfrey

As we say goodbye to 2007 and the enormous amount of change that we experienced together, we turn and face this next step even stronger and more committed than before. 2008 promises to have a lot in store for us, and I’m confident that as a community we can face the struggles and trials of our lives with faith and hope—taking the chance we’ve been given to get it right!

In worship, we’re kicking off the New Year with a sermon series titled, “The Anatomy of a Disciple.” Over four weeks, we’ll examine the role of the head, heart, hands, and feet in the life of a disciple. How do we come to understand, love, serve, and share God in our individual and communal lives?

Paired with this, we also have some exciting new adult life opportunities that will be occurring this winter and spring. Alpha is back! This 11 week course meets weekly to examine some of the basic questions of our faith. Who is God? Who is Jesus and why did he die? What do I do with my life? Another new Bible study is beginning on Sunday mornings by the name of “Living Fully, Dying Well.” Though aimed at discussing end of life decisions, this group is open to all ages and encouraged for everyone, as we all face the effects of aging and corresponding decisions in our families and lives several times over.

Look inside for more information on these and other groups, including the cancer support group, young adult gathering, and other creative opportunities to live out your call as a disciple in all aspects of your life! Rosemount UMC is alive and well, and we want you here!

God’s peace and joy,

Pastor Brooke Heerwald

Carnivale is coming!! Starting in January, RUMC will be providing a respite care program for families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their siblings. The children will enjoy an evening of fun and games plus a meal while their parents can enjoy some time away for themselves. Our first event will be on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm in the FLC. While there is no cost for the evening, pre-registration is required. We hope to host this very special ministry approximately seven times in 2008. If you are a family that could benefit from this ministry or if you would like to volunteer as a helper, please contact Gail Hoffmann, 952-322-5796 or Karen Klekner, 651-423-2475. All volunteers must take Risk Management if they haven't already done so. There will be a Risk Management training at the church on Thursday, January 10th at 6:30 pm. This ministry has been generously supported and funded by the CCP foundation--a foundation that promotes the abilities of children and adults with developmental disabilities.
