Praise the Lord! O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. Psalm 106:1
November is traditionally a time to give thanks. It is a time to remember God’s faithfulness, mercy and goodness. I am thankful for the blessings of health and family, for friendship and laughter. I am thankful for the grace of Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation.I am thankful for Rosemount United Methodist Church. Here are just a few of the examples why:
- For small group leaders, large group drama teams, nursery workers and support staff who minister with our children and youth
- For Caring Ministry Angels and Congregational Care Team members who care for us, support us, bring us meals and visit us when we are hospitalized or in difficult situations and for those who minister to families by serving funeral luncheons.
- For the countless people who do behind-the-scenes ministry that helps our church to run more efficiently: for the receptionists and the lawn care crew, the courtyard gardening team, Kitchen Team, garage sale volunteers, Offering tellers and more.
- For those who have committed themselves to leadership in our church; the Administrative Council, Finance Team, Stewardship Team, Board of Trustees, Lay Leaders, Staff Parish Relations Team, Outreach Team, Inclusion Team, Missions Team, Shared Ministry, Youth Steering Team, Children’s Ministry Team, etc.
- For those who lead us in worship, singers, musicians, dancers, drama folks, ushers, greeters, readers, sound board operators, the Worship Team and more.
- For 410+ people who served on the Urban Plunge, being Christ’s hands and feet in the world.
- For those who are tithing to our church, and for all of those who are taking the next step toward tithing each year.
- For a church staff of men and women who are hard working, gracious, funny and kind. As a group, they pray regularly for our congregation.
- For those of you who have personally taken time to offer me support and encouragement through cards and letters, comments and prayers during this year in which we only have one full-time clergy. A HUGE thank you to many who have said, “Give me a specific job to do this year.”
I am thankful for people who are new to our faith community. We love getting to know you, hearing your stories and watching you step-out in discipleship, fellowship and service!
What are you thankful for this November?
In Christ,
Pastor Karen Bruins

Farewell and thank you Heidi Hutchinson!
RUMC bids farewell to Heidi Hutchinson, Director of Adult Life. Heidi has made the decision to step down from paid ministry in the church in order to be able to spend more time with her family. In just a few short years her oldest heads off to college. Time with our children flies quickly by, so while we are sad to see her go, we fully support her commitment to her family.
Heidi will continue to be a very active volunteer in our congregation. She has many gifts for ministry. Heidi will continue to work with TLC (Tuesday Ladies Community) as the leader of this ministry.
Thank you Heidi for your years of faithful ministry. You have helped grow and shape adult small groups. You have worked to help connect people's ministry gifts and passions to ministry needs in the church. You have been a tireless worker in all that you have done. We have been blessed by your passion for the church and your deep faith in Jesus Christ!Rev. Rick Ormsby has been partnering with Heidi in adult ministry. He will continue to serve in this capacity.
Holiday Bazaar
The UMW Holiday Bazaar is scheduled for Saturday, November 18th from 9:00am-2:00pm. It is a traditional annual event, which the people in the community anticipate each year. Invite your friends and neighbors. Its a great opportunity to buy unique gifts and eat delicious homemade soup.
The Bake Shop will include breads, candy, cookies, special treats, our made at church Crabapple Butter, Beet Pickles, other pickles, the Eleven Bean Soup Mix, and other goodies.
Several quilts will be featured for a silent auction. The bidding sheet and the quilts will be on display several weeks prior to the sale. The Craft and Gift Shop will include tied quilts, gift baskets, and other items, something for everyone on your gift list.
Unique House Pins with a variety of themes will be available. The proceeds from the pin sales supports Emma Norton Services. The Urban Plunge also served there. The Simpson UMW will again bring a sampling of international items.
A Children's Store allows children from 3-8 to pick out gifts for their family from items donated. A Children's Craft keeps them busy while Mom shops.
A Coffee Shop serves homemade cinnamon rolls from 9-11am. Lunch is a choice of chicken and rice soup or eleven bean and ham soup with French Bread and beverage. Homemade pies are available for desert.
Your donations and participation always makes the UMW Holiday Bazaar a success. Watch the weekly announcement sheet for more information. The money from the bazaar is the major part of the Rosemount United Methodist Women’s budget. Janet Ewing, RUMW President
Update from SPRC
The Staff Parish Relations Committee is continuing its work with the District Superintendent to bring a second clergy person to RUMC July 1, 2007. They will be meeting again with the District Superintendent Rev. Cindy Gregorson on December 4, 2006. The Superintendent will take all of the information we give her about our church and our ministry needs to the Cabinet. The Cabinet is made up of the Bishop and the 6 District Superintendents. The Cabinet looks at the needs of the churches in the Minnesota Annual Conference and the gifts of the clergy and then match clergy to churches. This process begins in January of 2007 and takes several months to make all of the matches. RUMC will likely be one of the earliest churches to be considered.
So how do we as a church prepare to receive a new clergy person?
Please continue to pray for the leadership of our church during this year of discernment. We want to be fully open to the calling of God and shape our staffing accordingly. If you have specific ideas, questions or concerns about how we staff our church's ministries please feel free to contact any member of the Staff Parish Relations Committee. They are your voice in this process and your input is important. SPRC members are: Chuck Phillips (Chairperson), Dennis Lund, Kathy Dierkes, Roxane Sipe, Jerry Sood, Bobbie Hedge, Jack Parker, Paul Lindemann and Kris Anderson. Please pray for the clergy person who will be appointed to RUMC. Pray for our congregation to warmly receive the new person.
New member classes for those interested in joining RUMC will be held at the church on 2 Tuesday evenings, November 7th and 14th, from 6 - 8 PM. A light meal will be served. Child care will be available. The two evenings are meant as one class, so persons should plan on attending both. Please RSVP to the church office. For more information contact Jim or Dawn Dibley at 651-423-5392 or ddibley@rosemountumc.org.

The Law of Miraculous Multiplication.
The Law of Unconditional Contentment.
The Law of Rightful Ownership. These are just three of the intriguing laws you will be reading about during November's 33 Laws in 33 Days!
As a result of a relationship we have with Injoy Stewardship Services, copies of The 33 Laws of Stewardship have been made available to every household in our congregation. If you haven’t picked up your copy, be sure and get it next time you’re over at the church.
The idea of the 33 Days program is to spend 10-15 minutes (really!) each day reading a 2-4 page chapter about a principle of stewardship. A Discovery Guide comes with the book to help you reflect on what you read. Enrich your understanding of property, gifts, God and stewardship!
Our 33 Days of study will culminate in the offering of our pledges on December 3rd - November 29th for our Wednesday worshippers.
Rosemount UMC is actively moving towards becoming a tithing congregation. Most of us aren’t at 10% yet. Taking the Next Step … Toward Tithing means moving from giving 4% of household income to giving 5% to the church. Maybe you’re at 7%, so your Next Step will be 8%.
If we look at giving as just part of a family budget, tithing can seem daunting. But the spiritual journey of stewardship turns a daunting task into a joyful experience!
Join your fellow worshippers in reading The 33 Laws of Stewardship. You will truly be amazed at how it changes your approach to stewardship, and how much easier it becomes to Take the Next Step … Toward Tithing!!
Help us save money on postage and paper mailings!!
You should have received a postcard in a church mailing recently, asking that you update your email address. The more email addresses we have, the more we’ll save on postage and the more we’ll keep you up to date on what’s going on at church.
Some questions that we’ve heard:
Why are you asking for my work email?
We’re only asking you to fill in email addresses that you want us to use. Many people prefer to use their work addresses for everything because that’s the account they most frequently check. We have database fields for each individual’s home, work and family email addresses. Fill in as many or as few of the blanks as you want, in a way that will keep you in the loop on what’s happening at Rosemount UMC.
Why are you asking for an email address when you already have mine?
Many email addresses we have are outdated, but don’t “bounce back”. Your postcard tells you what we have for you. If it’s up to date, just scribble “ok” on it and either drop it in the mail, drop it off at the office, or drop it in the offering plate next time you’re in church.
I don’t want to send my email address through the mail on a postcard – what should I do?
Drop the card at the office or in the offering plate next time you’re in church. Feel free to snip off the stamp and use it on your next postcard!
Why did you spend money to stamp the postcard?
In our busy lives, we all have great intentions to follow up, but things fall through the cracks. By putting a stamp on the card, we’re trying to make it as easy as possible for you to respond, and impress on you the importance of your response. If one postcard stamp ($.24) saves a few dozen future postcard and first class stamps ($.39), it’s worth it!
I can’t find my postcard – what should I do?
Not a problem. There are blank postcards in the pew racks. Along with the email addresses you want us to use for each member of your family, fill in your full name and address so we make sure it’s entered in the right place (we’re getting big enough to have some duplicate names!). Drop it off in the office or in the offering plate.
Thanks for helping us keep those expenses down while we keep in touch with you!
