Dear Rosemount UMC Members and Friends,

This past spring we, as a congregation, were challenged with the huge undertaking of renovating the Family Life Center “So All May Worship”, ensuring that we stay warm by installing a new boiler, expansion of our mission’s projects, and continued outreach to the community through expanded media outlets. Our generosity and hard work has paid off. We have a beautiful new worship space and the boiler is currently being installed!! We should all be proud of our efforts.

Let’s keep the momentum going as we move into the 2008 Stewardship Campaign, taking into consideration our daily operational needs. The Finance Committee is asking that we continue on our journey in “Taking the Next Step Toward Tithing” together as a congregation so that God’s work can continue and grow at Rosemount UMC. Please prayerfully ask God to guide all of us in making our tithe, our pledge to the ministry of God through Rosemount UMC.

Rosemount UMC currently operates on a $1.1 million budget and is expected to grow to almost $1.2 million for 2008. Listed below are some of our larger monthly operating expenses:

Employee salary and benefits: $30,000 Utilities: $5,500
Mortgage: $25,000 Maintenance: $1,500
Apportionments: $8,000 Insurance: $1,300

Beginning in 2008, the Building Fund will be rolled into the Operating Fund for a Combined Operating and Building Fund. When submitting your pledge card, we ask that you add your building contributions to your operating pledge. Rolling the funds together will alleviate the administration burden of managing multiple accounts. Capital Campaign contributions are a separate donation and are not part of the annual stewardship drive.

Dedication of our pledges will take place on Wednesday, November 14th and Sunday, November 18th. Cake will be served during coffee hour to celebrate our gifts. The Finance Team would like to ask that you complete your pledges as soon as you are able so that our budgeting process can be as complete and accurate as possible.

Again, thank you for your prayers, presence, and generosity.

In Christ,
The Finance Team

Michelle Jara, Chair Mike Goldammer Tami Luckhardt
Patty Billings Nancy Knoepke Sheryl O’Connell
Pastor Karen Bruins Peter Lawrence Doc Richardson

VaBus News

Q: What is a VaBus? A: It's a vehicle that some would say is half-way between a van and a bus. It's the name that was given to our 18 passenger church bus that was purchased about five years ago.
Q: Oh, is that the bus that has DARTS decals on it that used to be parked in our parking lot? A: Not any more! Rosemount UMC youth, Shannon Hanson's Girl Scout troop, Troop 1090 (consisting of five 9th grade girls) for their Silver Award Project, has been working hard removing decals and preparing the bus to be painted.
Q: Where is the bus now? A: It used to be parked in the church parking lot however, because of vandalism, is now kept at the Schuelke's house.

Q: So is it available for people to use?

A: Certainly. The painting and new decals still need to be done but it is definitely working and usable. Just check with the church office.

Charge Conference Announcement
A Charge Conference has been scheduled for Tuesday December 4, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in accordance with paragraph 247 of the Book of Discipline. We are required by Discipline to annually approve the salaries of the pastors.

Gerry Vuchetich, a member of Rosemount UMC, is pursuing certification as a candidate for Licensed Ministry. Paragraph 247.9 of the Discipline calls for a Charge Conference to examine and recommend candidates for ministry. Paragraph 310.2b gives instruction for how a Charge Conference recommends a candidate. It shall be “approved by written ballot by two-thirds of the charge conference present at this meeting”

Church Conference Announcement
A Church Conference has been scheduled for Monday January 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the Church Conference will be to receive reports from ministry areas, clergy, certified lay speakers, membership report, and to vote on the election of members of the Board of Trustees. We will also receive an update on the “So All May Worship” capital campaign.

UNITED METHODIST INFORMATION – Did you know?
The United Methodist Church is governed by the Book of Discipline which prescribes how we carry out our church business. The Book of Discipline outlines two avenues for the organization and administration of the church: the Charge Conference and the Church Conference.

What is the difference between a Charge Conference and a Church Conference? The primary difference is who has authority to vote. At either a Church Conference or a Charge Conference all persons have the right to speak.

A Charge Conference is a smaller voting body that is made up of the members of the Administrative Council. The Discipline prescribes that some issues (like the certification of candidates for Licensed or Ordained Ministry) come before a Charge Conference.

A Church Conference is open for all members of the church to vote on issues presented to the Church Conference.

A church must request written permission from the District Superintendent to hold a Charge or Church Conference. An ordained Elder who is not appointed to that local church presides over the conference. At Rosemount UMC we have two retired clergy, Rev. Norman Lidke and Rev. Rick Ormsby, who are able to fill this role for us.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing is scheduled for Sat, December 15, at Cub Foods in Rosemount. This will be from 10:00-3:00 at the entrance door. A sign up sheet will be available in the narthex. For more information contact Chris Bishop 952-423-432-0903; bish5@frontiernet.net

May we all take time to remember what we’re thankful for; enjoy family, friends, and good food!

UMW News

Did you know? The local unit of United Methodist Women (UMW) uses the proceeds of the Bazaar to support their programs and their pledge to the Women’s Division of the United Methodist Church. Historically, the UMW has supported and developed programs that enrich the lives of women, children and youth in the U.S.A. and globally. Some of these are illustrated in the Response magazines on the bulletin boards in the Fellowship Hall.

The Rosemount UMC UMW supplies the Upper Rooms, Pockets, Alive Now, and Care Notes. We organize and serve receptions following memorial and funeral services held at our church, provide the funds for the Bibles for the confirmation youth and the books for the high school seniors’ study. We donated a quilt and fabric to make quilts to the Jamaican mission trip last year and this year we will be sending a box of quilt bats. We have provided scholarships for Rust College. Donated baby quilts and other quilts to various causes and lap robes to nursing homes and fabric for quilts has been used to make quilts for the Quilts of Valor for soldiers. Our Sunshine lady, Vi Eslinger sends Valentine, Easter, Thanksgiving, birthday and anniversary greeting cards to the members of our church family who are over 65 years of age and get-well and sympathy cards to others. Does the church have your birthday on record?

Fall Garage Sale Success-from Janet Ewing

God is so good! As part of the TLC women's study "Experiencing God," I have realized and give God the credit for that success and your participation. The fall garage sale was a great success. Over $6,500 was added to the church’s general fund. Everyone was impressed with the quality of the donations. Sebeka UMC used any leftovers for their own sale. A big thank you to those who helped with the table and shelf setup. Special thanks to Jaya and Lynne Bierbaum for putting the signs on the tables and to Barb Hester who put up all of the wall and pricing signs. Thank you also to all of the newcomers. It was great to see new helpers- some newly retired and some were mothers whose children are now in school. I felt a more joyful spirit throughout the week.

Also, we got to see how our church helps others first hand: a homeless couple, who are living out of their van, came to the church on Tuesday. Pastor Brooke invited them in to pick up items they needed and also to use the showers. They came back on Friday and ate lunch with us, helped us to clean up and pack, and used the showers again. We shared our worship times with them and invited them back.

If there is some way you would like to assist with the Garage Sale or have suggestions, please contact Julie Bierbaum, Muriel Barnes or myself, Janet Ewing.
