Serve

October 2007 Urban Plunge”

At Rosemount UMC we believe in serving. Serving others in the name of Jesus helps to alleviate hunger and suffering and demonstrates the love of Jesus in tangible ways. Serving also changes US as we serve. We are reminded of what is important in life and of how blessed we really are. Through serving we make new friends and deepen relationships. 1 Peter 4:10 says, “Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”

I hope you will join in this all-church, intergenerational service opportunity. Sign up is available On Line via the church website at www.rosemountumc.org or on the Urban Plunge sign up board in the Narthex. A big THANKS to Jamey Hansen who created the On Line sign up!

Check the website for full descriptions of the sites. Here is a snapshot with the sites appearing by the date they take place.

By the time you read this, one project has already been completed. Thanks to all who served at the Grocery Give Away on Saturday September 15, 2007.

In Christ,

Pastor Karen Bruins

Help Close the Apportionments Gap!

In late October, Rosemount UMC will be taking a special offering for Apportionments – the funds which each United Methodist church pays, per member, to support outreach and missions worldwide.

This year, $42,000 of our $98,000 Apportionments obligation must come from special offerings. So far, we’ve collected just over $15,000. We still need to raise $27,000.

Our Apportionments obligation is a bill that is paid to the Conference to support mission work and education in third world countries and impoverished areas here at home. Apportionment-supported work is the way Rosemount UMC joins with other churches to do what no single church can do alone to spread the word of Jesus Christ.

Rosemount UMC’s Apportionments bill amounts to $115 per member. Many of us can afford to make an offering for more than the number of members in our household. Others simply cannot. Please help Rosemount UMC meet its Apportionments responsibility through your strong support in October!

$$$$ Summer Slowdown...Fall Catch up! $$$

Giving to the Operating and Building Funds slowed over the summer. The Finance Committee asks if you're behind on your pledge, please bring it up-to-date as soon as possible. If you have questions about where you stand on your pledge, please call Sandra Pearman at 651-423-2475.

2008 Budget Process to Begin

Fall ministries have begun and each committee is busy implementing new or enhanced ministries. Fall is also the time we traditionally update our plans for next year. As such, we will shortly be starting our 2008 operating and building fund budgeting process.

We are asking each ministry team to evaluate how the missions/activities they support are aligned with the church’s beacons and vision. Those activities that are aligned with our strategic vision will be given a priority in the budgeting process. It is important that your ministry team, lay leader and the program staff person responsible for your team all participate and provide input in this process. When our goals are aligned it is easier to communicate our budget allocations to the congregation in a manner that makes sense to them. Therefore, PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR 2008 BUDGET REQUESTS AND RETURN TO THE FINANCE COMMITTEE NO LATER THAN November 1st, 2007.

The 2008 budgeting process will continue to encourage more input from the church program staff. The steps you need to complete in the 2008 budgeting process include the following:

  1. Solicit input on the financial needs and wants for your ministries in 2008
  2. Determine how those needs and wants are aligned with our beacons and vision;
  3. Review budget request with lay leader;
  4. Review budget request with program staff;
  5. Submit budget request by November 1st;
  6. Participate in discussions with finance as final revisions are made to the budget in December/January. If you would like to discuss your 2008 budget requests with finance, please contact Michelle Jara for a time slot at the November 19th team meeting. When our pledge drive is complete we will finalize the budget (generally in mid January).

Thank you on behalf of the Finance Team
