Elevation Youth Ministries:

 

Class of 2008 for Seniors in High School – meets Sunday, Feb. 17th from 8-9:30pm upstairs in the Attic. : “Christ outside of the Bible.”

 

Club 78 – (for 7th & 8th graders) Wednesday, Feb. 20th from 6:30-8pm upstairs in the Attic. Our topic will be the 7th commandment – “Get Real, Don’t Steal.”

 

Sr. High Youth – (9th-12th graders) Sunday, Feb. 17th from 6-8pm upstairs in the Attic. Topic: “I Know What You Did Last…Whenever” What does it mean to forgive?

 

Middle School Mission Trip to Duluth for Summer of 2008 is FULL!! There still may be a chance we could get you on board!

Attention Confirmation Students!!! – Please continue to turn in worship reflections, service project reflection sheets (don’t forget to put your name on them), and confirmation covenant forms. We are in the process of getting materials together to send out to you about where your status is for confirmation. They will be out soon. Also, please mark these dates down on your calendars: For 9th graders - Confirmation Pictures & Rehearsal will be at 5pm on Sunday, April 27th the confirmation banquet for 9th graders and parents will be Sunday, April 27th from 6:30-8pm. For 8th graders – You are expected to serve at the confirmation banquet on Sunday, April 27th along with your mentor! Please put this date down on your calendars – you will be needed! Confirmation Sunday for 9th graders will be Sunday, May 4th. More details about the Banquet and Confirmation Sunday will be coming to you via snail mail. Just wanted to remind you all of dates coming up and to make sure they are on your calendars! Lastly, confirmation interviews for this year’s 9th graders will begin the end of March – more details about this coming soon!

 

UMY’s 2008 – We are in need of an adult male to join us as a leader for the Sr. High weekend of UMY’s. Dates are Friday, March 14th @ 4pm – Sunday, March 16th (we will be home at 3pm) Please let me know if you are interested in this opportunity! The cost to you as a leader is waived!! THE CHILI COOK-OFF AND SILENT AUCTION ARE ON MARCH 2ND after second services.  The competition was fierce last year and we expect 2008 to bring out even more contenders. FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY SUNDAY…are provided by Brett and Kris Peterson in celebration of Allison and Ben’s baptismal anniversary.

 

PASTA ON WEDNESDAYS…The Wednesday night dinners, Pasta on Wednesdays, are served weekly from 5:30-6:30 p.m. , The cost is  $5.00 per person and $2.00 for 12 years & under.  Please sign up for the meal, either in the Narthex or by calling the church office at 651-423-2475, by 3:00 p.m. on Mondays.

                We are blessed with a few regular volunteers, but more are definitely needed, especially from 6-7pm, to help with the clean up.  If you are able to assist this ministry, please call Mary Moffitt (952-846-0157) or Gerry Vuchetich (952-431-6868).

 

GDK PRESCHOOL  is now enrolling for the 2008-09 school year.  Registration forms are available on the RUMC Children’s Welcome Table and on our website at www.godsdiscoverykids.org.  We will be offering classes for three, four, and five-year-olds.  Contact Wendy Riphenburg at ext. 217 or wriphenburg@rosemountumc.org for tours.  Hurry – classes are filling quickly!

ROSEMOUNT UMC IS SEEKING A WEEKEND CUSTODIAN.  This  2-3 hours per day position on Saturdays & Sundays, requires cleaning and preparing the church building for worship.  If you would like more information regarding this position, please contact Tami Luckhardt at 651-423-2475, ext. 206.

 

FAMILY CAREGIVING STRATEGIES - SPONSORED BY Rosemount UMC CARING MINISTRIES… More than ever, families face the practical and emotional challenges of caring for aging parents or a spouse. Whether sudden or gradual, assuming these roles and responsibilities can be unfamiliar and often overwhelming, particularly for working adults. Come to a free presentation in the Fellowship Hall Saturday, February 16, 2008 from 9:30-11:00 AM to learn about resources, strategies, and insights. CARNIVALE.......Our first Carnivale was an amazing success!!   Seventeen children participated and all seventeen are going to attend February's Carnivale.    We are infinitely blessed to have such wonderful volunteers.  They gave all the families the gift of God's love and grace.   Our next Carnivale will be Friday, February 22, 5:30-9:30 pm.  Preregistration for interested families with children with developmental disabilities is needed by Wednesday, February 20.  If you are a family that could benefit from this ministry, please contact Karen Klekner, 651-423-2475 or Gail Hoffmann, 952-322-5796. Or, if you would like to volunteer and have had Risk Management training in the last three years, please call Jane Hubbard, 651-423-4981.

 

NEW WINTER ADULT MINISTRIES

Living Fully, Dying Well…Sundays at 9:00 & 10:30 am. Our best decisions about life’s most important events are seldom made in times of crisis.  “Living Fully, Dying Well,” written by Bishop Reuben Job, assists in making careful, wise and prayerful preparation for meeting life’s most important moments.  A study for ALL ages designed for a frank and open discussion about faith mortality, and living every day to the fullest.  Led by Pastor Rick Ormsby.  Meets in D-125.

 

SERVING OTHERS IN OUR COMMUNITIES

 

SIMPSON SHELTER… SIMPSON SHELTER for the month of March has been filled. The next available serving dates are April 21 and May 19.  A sign up sheet is located on the west wall in the fellowship hall. For more info contact Rich Wirt 651-322-2331.

 

Many of you ask us to let you know when we have immediate donation needs arise. The Simpson Shelter currently has the following immediate donation needs:

    * Men's and women's gloves, hats and scarves

    * Men's and women's thermal long underwear

    * Men's underwear sizes 30, 32, 34, boxers and briefs

    * Women's underwear, smaller sizes

    * Men's and women's socks

    * Deodorant

    * 10 heavy men's winter coats

    * Warm, heavy blankets - our shelter mattresses are extra-long          twin sized

Donations can be dropped off by the Donation Station (next to the pop machine) in the SHS tub.

 

THE CLOTHING CLOSET AT NORTH UMC takes donated clothing from the community and distributes them to low income and homeless families in North Minneapolis.  We've been partnering with them to help with this wonderful effort.  In order to stay open, they need 2-4 people from Rosemount UMC to help once a month.  We'll be taking our donations to their church, and helping them sort donations that come in.  The clothing closet is open from 9am-12pm.  We carpool from the church at 8:15am.  We're now taking sign ups for March 1, April 5 and May 3.  If you can help at any of these times, please contact Brenda Lawrence at brendalawrence@yahoo.com or 651.454.6117.
