Moving Spirit Dance Ministry

2008-2009

Mission:  Sharing God’s Message One Step at a Time.

Objective: Dance will be expressive, tasteful and created to communicate the message and prayerful intent of the church.

Preparing the way for the Lord to come into our lives takes one step at a time!  Once again, we answer His calling to share His message through the ministry of dance.  This year marks our 8th season for the Moving Spirit Dance Ministry here at Rosemount United Methodist Church. Offering praise and worship with our dance ministry has been full of joyful and heart-felt gratefulness, fulfilling our mission and purpose as we continue to share God’s message one step at a time.

Gina Penn and I are excited to see what God has in mind for His dance ministry. Each year we are always growing and changing how and what we do. Last year, the ministry stepped outside of our church and served at Feed My Starving Children!  We also adapted to our new FLC sanctuary!  The dance ministry was present in both traditional and contemporary services. Music ministry provided diverse and phenomenal opportunities! From harp to bells from hip-hop to classical, the Moving Spirit Dance Ministry delivered with spiritual truth and excellence!

Dancing and sharing in friendship has been a powerful testimony to why our dancers continue to grow in number and “size”!  We have watched many of our dancers grow into incredible young men and women.  It is a blessing watching these talented and giving young people share their gifts, time and energy preparing the way of the Lord each year!

Our first gathering date for the 2008 -2009 season begins on Sunday, September 14th at 2pm. This first meeting will last no more than two hours. This will allow us to reacquaint with our fellow dancers and get to know our new friends. We will also begin our first group piece!

Due to the incredible number of dancers with the ministry, our rehearsals are strategically planned in order to try our best not to have any dancer at a rehearsal for more than 3 hours. Our total rehearsal time is from 1pm until 5pm.  Age and number of pieces a dancer is involved with will reflect their time requirement. A snack break is always scheduled out for our dancers in order to refresh our bodies and minds during intensive rehearsals.

Looking into the future, the dance ministry has been invited to participate at the Christian Education Fellowship annual Children’s Ministry conference on April 18th 2009 at Good Samaritan UMC in Edina, MN. It is always a joy and blessing to share our ministry with others who have not witnessed how dance can serve our Lord! Two years ago, Moving Spirit Dance Ministry served at the Worship Arts Regeneration Conference at Crossroads United Methodist Church with the key speaker, Bishop Sally Dyck!

This year’s annual Christmas Cantata will take place on Sunday December 14th.  There are always many people involved in this special service. Though the dancers are just a part of the whole, everyone works hard to present the very best God has given to them. The ability to participate and to serve with excellence reflects the committed community that supports the dance ministry. Without this overall support, our dancers would not be where they are today!

Please let us know if you will be able to attend the September 14th meeting. On September 21st and 28th our rehearsals will also meet from 2pm-4pm. A complete rehearsal schedule will be delivered to all dancers on September 28th. It will be important to have each family communicate with us by September 21st when they know their dancer will not be able to attend rehearsal thru to Cantata time. This information helps us plan different groups of dancers and pieces in our total rehearsal time-line.

Dancer’s Declaration of Commitment:

To Honor and Praise God with all my heart using the gifts that God has given to me.  I will respect my fellow dancers and leaders.  I will not dishonor the house of our Lord, where we minister with our gift of dance and fellowship.  I will be focused and attentive at all rehearsals and worship services.  I will take care of myself and try to avoid any unnecessary activities that could cause injury and jeopardize my participation with the Moving Spirit Dance Ministry.  I understand missing rehearsals could result in not being able to dance in worship service.
