Discovering Tomorrow Process

Coach – “a person who trains an athlete or team of athletes”

Coaches help an individual athlete or a team live up to their full potential. A coach assesses areas of strength and areas that need improvement. A coach helps a team learn how to work and play together for maximum effectiveness. Golf pros, tennis pros, fitness trainers, baseball, football and basketball coaches all develop players.

Church Council has engaged the services of a coach, to help our congregation maximize our effectiveness. We believe an outside perspective will provide the congregation fresh insight, objectivity and expertise. John Laster, of Creative Church Coaching, will be working with the staff, leaders and the congregation for the next 6-8 months in a process called, “Discovering Tomorrow.”

The Discovering Tomorrow process:

  • Listens carefully to leaders and members, discovering their perspectives on the present, and their hopes and dreams for the future
  • Analyzes trends and demographic data of the congregation and ministry area
  • Coaches leadership teams to set priorities, and develop a practical action plan blueprint
  • Discovers the church’s hidden strengths and opportunities
  • Generates energy and excitement as people connect with new possibilities
  • Provides the church with a comprehensive report of findings and recommendations

John was on-site one Sunday morning in November to observe and participate as a first time visitor. He has already provided us with some helpful feedback on welcoming guests, worship, our physical plant and hospitality. During his first three day visits, in addition to participating on Sunday morning, John interviewed several members of our congregation, met with the Staff Parish Relations Committee, the adult leaders of the Senior High small groups and met one-on-one with staff members. The Church Council and staff, through a survey called, “Leadership Perceptions”, gave John a snapshot of how they see the church and its ministry. John also guided the newly formed Discovering Tomorrow Team and provided in- service with the program staff on the Discovering Tomorrow process.
